" My husband and I hired Mark to defend us and my brother in law on a anti harassment order filed against us by a neighbor. Mark did a wonderful job defending us and the order was dropped. I am very thankful Mark took our case he was very professional and explained everything in detail. Mark proved to the judge in court that we did nothing wrong..."
-Marijo (2017)

" He researched my case, found flaws in the amount of child support payments, researched German Laws, made recommendations to the local DA, got a request for arrears denied and stayed in contact with me over everything the state did or failed to do. Awesome job!"
-Howard (2015)

"Before becoming an attorney, I enjoyed careers as a Social Services Manager and as an Systems Administrator/IT Teacher. My wife and I originally hailed from the Midwest, but we happily relocated to the Seattle Metro area in 2017.

I received my Masters in Education from Northern Illinois University in 1995; and I received my Juris Doctorate in Law in 2012 from Northern Kentucky University, where I was a Henry Clay Scholar and thrice-named to the Dean's List. That year I also received the Marilyn Wall Scholarship for Excellence in Environmental Law. I am a member of the ABA, the National Lawyer's Guild, and the Washington and Kentucky State Bar Associations.

Traditionally I enjoy writing and playing games of all types (billiards, chess, RPGs, etc.). I am a sports fan [Seahawks, Jazz] and have enjoyed championship success coaching flag football and basketball.

I have volunteered extensively over the years, including: local political campaigns, Habitat for Humanity, CASA, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Finally, I am a huge music fan. I was also a volunteer airshifter ("DJ") at a community radio station for 5 years back in Champaign, Illinois. "

Family Law (or "Domestic Relations") is an incredibly broad and complex area of law. From Divorce and Child Support/Custody to Domestic Protection Orders, or such diverse issues as: parental rights, dependency, parental neglect or abuse, emancipation, prenuptial and separation agreements, or third-party custody. Fully two-thirds of my practice is Domestic Relations. And when it comes to your family and your future, you don't want to farm this out to volunteers or para-professionals. And, of course, you must hire an attorney who has a deep understanding of "Community Property" law.

Child Protection is also a focus of my practice. As all parents know, whenever our kids are hurt we want answers--but we look for justice. Whether the damage was caused by the environment, a faulty product, abuse by those we trusted, or some other source, I will leverage all the resources available to represent your child and your family's best interests. Call me if you fear your child is in danger from the current custody and visitation arrangements.

I am always prepared for Court-but (especially when kids are involved) my bias is to at least attempt to reach a settled parenting plan. It doesn't leave it up to the whims of a Judge, and it is a plan for the future-not just the next skirmish in a never-ending battle. You want closure.

I had twenty years of experience as a professional before I ever became an attorney: I don't leave my clients hanging by the phone-nor surprise them with a less-than-full effort in the Courtroom. If you feel you have been been monetarily harmed by someone's else's actions, please give me a call (for that free consultation) to find out!

Call me if a loved one passes and you have questions about the Probate process. Let me help you gather the info the documents, and the specific filings that you need in your unique situation.

And, regardless of why I am retained, please also look into getting yourself end-of-life and estate planning documents. You owe it to yourself and your loved one to be prepared. Plus, I will give you a comprehensive package, with "to-do" instructions to be executed when something serious occurs.

Any attorney will prepare documents to be filed away, let's create more than that-let's make a plan. For example, what about your "digital estate"?

Elder abuse and neglect are among the fastest growing concerns in the legal field. Sometimes those who are entrusted with our loved ones (whether institutions or family members) must be overseen and stopped before they can do harm. And the stakes can be life and death.

Similarly, let me help you plan ahead so that your estate and your well-being isn't exposed to unwanted creditors or potential predators during your end-of-life.

Please also note that Tax Law and Social Security considerations are always a part of my comprehensive recommendations. In order to stay abreast of the latest in Social Security practice, I earned my NSSA certification in 2016.

For debtors: Chapter 7 and 13 filings and appearances at hearings, with affordable flat-rate pricing. For everyone else: free consulting to decide whether or not you need to file and litigate a claim.

As our country's economy continues to squeeze the middle-class, debts and doubts control too much of our future. Bankruptcy can also play a part in many other types of claims (divorce, civil litigation, and contract disputes). Make sure you talk with an attorney who does all of that, and not just someone who files Chapter 7 claims all day.

I consider fighting for your, or your loved one's, civil rights the most important thing I can do.

For seven years I studied and practiced law in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Then, in 2013, sensing that a recent SCOTUS decision had created an opening, I was the attorney who wrote, filed, and was co-counsel of record for the marriage equality state court case that ultimately became the law in Kentucky: KEF v. Beshear, et al, Franklin County, 13-CI-1074 (consolidated with 14-CI-322). We won. And our case was actually decided a couple of months before the final decision by the United States Supreme Court in Obergefell.

Our laws protect those among us who need protection: Think about Discrimination, Religion, Free Speech, or any of the thousands of other ways the law is supposed to protect you.

My key to getting favorable settlements for clients is to always be prepared to go to trial.

I put maximum preparation into every negotiation: I consider working on my client's civil litigation a privilege and a responsibility. Being ready for the fight ultimately gets quicker and better settlements for my clients. And together (in a team effort) you and I will clarify your goals and set out on a course that gets you the legal relief you deserve.

Harassment, Land-Use, Landlord-Tenant, International Law (Business and Domestic Relations), and Contract Law are just a few of the areas where I've helped my clients get relief in hearings or at trial. And in the 21st Century, Defamation and Privacy-as it relates to technology-is the next frontier. My background as an IT professional informs this part of my practice.

I attempt to make my services more affordable in several ways. First, unlike most attorneys, my consultations are free. Second, I often provide "unbundled services" and/or "limited representation": these are when we can focus my engagement with you to just specific document(s) or certain legal proceedings. These are good ways to make legal help affordable.

Third, I practice "collaborative law" services. Collaborative law arrangements are when both attorneys agree to help with negotiations—but formally agree to also drop off if it goes to trial. This maximizes the incentives for settling it out of court. Similarly, we can strategize so that perhaps I can be retained for just the negotiations in a "pre-litigation" capacity, in order to reach agreement on as many issues as possible.

Finally, for qualified clients who have paid the initial retainer+advance, I offer payment plans and "prompt payment" discounts. So, there is no need to suffer: CALL NOW. 253-234-1205.
